I went and saw Jewel tonight at the Wilma Theater. My friend had an extra ticket so of course being the music whore I am, I said yes. I am not particularly a Jewel fan (until now), her baby voice always bugged me. I did see her last time she was in Missoula at Caras Park years ago and thought the show was just 'ok'. Tonight though blew me away. She looked amazing and her personality had the crowd enthralled. She is a really funny person. Immediately she drew the audience in by including them. Asked them questions, had them singing along. A few songs in some of the audience members started clapping (badly I might add) and she started laughing saying, "I love you but that is some bad clapping...I'm going to go back to the chorus...do it on the inside".
As a performer that cracks me up because it never fails that someone in the audience will start clapping off beat and totally throw you off. I always try to ignore it to not make them feel bad so I found this segment liberating. Her voice is incredible, so many textures and although I'm not fond of the baby voice even still I appreciate it. The voice is an instrument and I am going to explore mine more to reach the highs and lows she conquered with ease. Her new songs are so poignant and well written. I am now a Jewel fan and proud to say. Thank you Tanya for taking me to see Jewel tonight on your birthday. Inspiring!
Rock and Roll Love Child Hits Top Ten on Internet Radio Charts

April 13, 2010
Rock and Roll Love Child is on the charts and has been holding steady. Sharing the Top 50 Roots Rock category with Jeff Beck, Great American Taxi, Bruce Springsteen, K.D. Lang, Jack Johnson, and many others is proof that Andrea's talent is a well that has ne'er hardly been tapped.

Spring Chicken

February 23, 2010
Hello Missoula and beyond! I have Spring Fever like you wouldn't believe. The sunny blue skies have me pining for earth beneath my barefeet and sunkissed skin. As we Spring forward into the best part of the year, I am in need of some new band members. I am looking for a drummer, bass, and lead guitar player to back me up. If you or you know someone who may be interested have them write to me here. There are weddings, festivals, and other events in the future for the right people.
Thanks and Think Spring!!
2010... If not now, when?

January 12, 2010
My motto for this year. A really good one for me being that I'm *somewhat* of a procrastinator. I have a lot of high hopes for amazing opportunities and experiences this year. Making music as a mother and wife is a challenge duofold and then some but I am committed to me and music is a big part of that. So with one hand in the dishwater, one helping with homework and two feet planted firmly on my path to attainment and joy, I welcome this new year with open arms. I look forward to the songs I'll write, the laughs and smiles I'll share with my family, and branching out of our beautiful state of Montana to share my music with new audiences around the country. May we all achieve balance, joy, and love in our lives this year and may all our dreams come true. The days pass by with woulda and shoulda's, make this the time. 2010... if not now, when?
Families In Need Fundraiser
-
December 16, 2009
This Friday's show with Secret Powers is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters Families In Need Program and the Missoula Food Bank. Many of you know the good work BBBS does around the country mentoring the young ones. Did you know that every Christmas season, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missoula raises money for their Families In Need Program? This is different in that the money goes to provide toys to the kids and winter clothing for the family. It gives families struggling to make it in todays economy (and there are a LOT of us out there) a leg up to decrease the stress financial instability can bring. The families involved with BBBS of Missoula are mostly working single family homes. They provide a wishlist to the organization, who in turn, purchases the items, wraps them, and delivers them in time for Christmas day.
Come to the show! If you don't live here, please donate by visiting my online donation website....

Giving feels amazing. Even if it's just $5. It all adds up. Try it! You'll like it.

Ho Ho Holidays are here
-
December 5, 2009
The holidays are here. My how the time flies.... 20 days till Christmas. I haven't done any shopping yet or decorating for that matter. I'm wanting to repaint the living room before I decorate. I keep oscillating between paint colors and I just need to pick one already and get it done! or not. Then get the damn decorating happening. :) I love when it's 'beginning to look a lot like Christmas..." So grey or icy blue? What's a girl to do? I'll sleep on it just one more day. Im not going to paint tomorrow anyway because the Griz are playing in the championships. Go Griz Go. Also, Parade of Lights- bitterly cold but pretty. Merry Christmas and may your holidays be bright!
Halloween!
-
October 31, 2009
Happy Halloween! I love this holiday. Went to see the Montana Actors Theatre production of Rocky Horror Show last night- midnight showing. The acting was great, the dancing, the theatrics... Reverend Slanky played the soundtrack live and killed it. The crowd needs some practice though. Luckily there are two showings today, 8pm and midnight.
Hit the town last night as "Billy Badass" Roller Derby queen. I sported my grade school skates. I didn't fall on my ass which was a victory in itself. Thinking about being a Hellgate Roller Girl..... but then I think I'll use that time to play/write music instead. :)
Making some kind of fantastic soup for the evenings festivities I'm not sure what kind yet because all I can think of right now is pumpkin pancakes!!
Have a fabulously spooky day! Next year, Halloween, an entire set of nothing but Joan Jett. Rock on with your skates on.
Today is the Day!

Like the little kid on the Disneyland commercial says, "Im too excited to sleep!" My eyes popped open at 5:30am and we're off......
The reason for my restlessness is that yes, I'm too excited to sleep but also because I will be receiving my cd's this afternoon. VERY SCARY! So for you fellow music makers out there, I highly recommend having CD's in hand well before your release party to save you stress and possible dissapointment.
Luckily, my girl at Discmakers is the best and made it happen for me. That and a LOT of positive vibrations.
See you all tonight.... oh and it said in the paper that there will be free tacos.. well, not exactly. I'll have free taco coupons to Taco Sano. Yum!
Enjoy the day!!
NEW CD RELEASE - SEPT. 09
-
September 6, 2009
Finally! This new CD has been in the works for over five years and in just a few short weeks it will be available for sale. Yes, I've put out CD's before (2000- Nine Pound Hammer, 2003- Live in Missoula, 2006- Fungal Boogieman (comp.) but this is the first CD that's entirely my own. I wrote all the songs, sing them all as well as play guitar on 'em. It is not just me and my guitar though. I have been honored by the Missoula music community and have a lot of them represented as well. One of the coolest things about the project is that my new band, The Night Lights, was born of it. Louie Bond on lead guitar, Ryan Shmed Maynes on keyboard/piano, Joe Nickell on drums and Matt Nord on bass. I hope you all can make it to a show!
I grew up on the Northside of Missoula and trains were an everyday occurrence as was the Orange Street Underpass which I had to walk through on the way to grade school if I missed the bus. As a kid there was nothing scarier than a figure of a man coming through the other side. I was always glad on these days that I played the saxophone, you know, to use as a weapon against loose and loud alley dogs and any one of hell's men who attempted to do no good. I was sure the concrete slabs of the underpass would slide open and demon's hellfire would consume me. I have always had a wild imagination. Today the Orange Street Underpass is filled with colorful art and the Northside is full of vibrant artists, musicians, and lovely people. I had this idea oh.... five years ago......... to put ambient recorded sounds from around Missoula between the tracks. Such as when a horn blasts in the Orange Street Underpass (rocks your soul), the trains at night, the sound of rushing water in the Clark Fork or simply kids playing a rainstorm. I have been recording these sounds for about two years and put a lot of them on the disc. Hope you like it.
