This is a Request of your presence, with your valued perspective
Monday, Marijuana Education Day, 10am -10pm!!
On Monday, April 19th, in the U.C. Ballroom, Students for NORML (National Organization Reform Marijuana Laws), are providing an opportunity for students, activists, caregivers, parents, police, and the community at large to gather together to discuss marijuana policy in Montana. Marijuana Education Day promises to explore medical marijuana science, marijuana store zoning, ethical caregiver practices, and the future of marijuana regulation.
Coordinated by Students for NORML, Students for Peace and Justice, the Cannabis Awareness Network, and Montana NORML, plus, various Missoula community sponsors; the event will feature informational displays, panel discussions, and community experts in the fields of marijuana science, law, and policy, IF YOU will agree to attend, and share your perspective – positive, negative, for, against – the idea is to have varied perspectives presented, and see if there is any common ground. This Letter of Request is being sent to respected persons, known voices.
All interested citizens with marijuana questions, concerns, and suggestions are welcome to attend. The event will be held in the UC Ballroom on the University of Montana campus in Missoula from 10AM until 10PM.
Morning events will include discussions of marijuana caregiver business practices, law enforcement concerns, and changes to the law that may be proposed in the 2011 legislature. Later in the day, community concerns will be discussed, as well as the state/federal legal disconnect, and the potential impacts of taxing and regulating marijuana. In the evening, further discussion, featured speakers, and then music by Andrea Harsell.
Appearing at the Missoula City Council meeting, April 5th, UM Students for NORML President Majessa Kerner said, “It’s obvious to me there are a number of growing concerns in this community in dealing with marijuana. I find that with most things it is helpful to get everyone’s opinions out in the open so that a decision can be reached. Marijuana Education Day will be the perfect opportunity for people from all sides of the discussion to voice their ideas and concerns.”
And, Montana NORML Director John Masterson said, "The marijuana industry in Montana is obviously experiencing some growing pains right now. It's high time the community come together to have a frank and open discussion of the issues. Marijuana Education Day is symbolic of this growing community's intention to be a responsible component of modern society." John serves on the Missoula County Marijuana Policy Oversight Committee.
Medical marijuana is legal under state law, but the University of Montana recently affirmed its compliance with the federal Drug Free Communities and Schools Act, which prohibits all marijuana on campus. Students with state-issued medical marijuana cards face disciplinary action or expulsion if found in possession of legal medical marijuana on campus.
Students want to understand why these policies have been implemented, how the medical marijuana law is being applied in the community, etc.. This event is to help clarify all the differing positions, give some perspectives, bring the issues surrounding medical marijuana out of the shadows, into the light of day.
Please attend, either the forums/panels during the day, join the evening discussion, or speak at night.. This letter of invitation is being sent in hope that people of statue, credibility, authority, respected people of the community, will come and share their perspectives on this issue.
Medical marijuana is with Montana communities. Montanans work things out through communication, find ways to cooperate. In the beginning, there is gathering together. Students for NORML, Students for Peace and Justice are providing just this opportunity, with students and community sitting in – please participate.

My friend Mike Avery hosts this Open Mic every Monday. He invited me to participate in this opportunity to win $1000 and I said, "What the hay...". They have 131 performers signed up for this! It is a 1/3rd peoples choice vote and 2/3 judges vote so if you can drop by and show a little love for your girl I would appreciate it! I know it's late (and a work night), but the contest starts at 8:30pm so you can just drop by, cast your vote, and still be in bed by the 10 o'clock news! LOL. Only two people advance each Monday and from my understanding there are 14 performers each week. I have produced so many similar events in my life that I have never been able to participate in that finally I can throw my hat into the ring so to speak. Looking forward to seeing some new talent on the stage. Missoula is full of it. See you there!

Happy New Year! This show was a lot of fun. I saw a lot of faces I've never seen before which was great. Played to another packed house. The lighting could've been better, it was in a flourescent lit lounge. Besides that though, we had a great time. The vote is in.....the first decade is called "the naughties"! Tee hee.

In lieu of cash at the door, we will also be accepting non-perishable food donations. Get $1 off door charge with each food donation for the Missoula Food Bank. Bring 5 cans- get in free!
Rock with a cause- For a better Missoula.
Thank you to all who came out for this show. It was a bummer of a night with the Griz losing the national championships by mere points. Really put a dent in the crowd but for those that chose to drown their sorrows in a tall one while giving back to the community were once again lifted to a blissful holiday haze. Secret Powers played a great set of originals plus covers by who else... the Beatles. We busted out some new dance songs we've been learning and had the crowd out on the dance floor. All in all we raised $245 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Families in Need Program and recieved 4 boxes of food for the Missoula Food Bank. Don't worry Griz, I still dig ya even though you screwed up my show.

This is the debut of the Nightlights at the Symes. Gonna be a rockin good time. Get a room, and get cozy. See you in the springs!!
74 miles N.W. of Missoula on HWY 28 between Plains and Elmo.
Friday the 13th Dance Party was a blast! Thanks to all the fine friends who made it over, there were a lot of you and I am so appreciative. The Night Lights did two sets, one of all my original songs which got the crowd dancing right away, and another set of all cover songs from I Will Survive, Abracadabra, I Feel the Earth Move, to Give Me One Reason, and Playing With the Queen of Hearts..... we had the place jumpin!
Time flies when you're having fun, as soon as we were finished we hit the pools!! Played a little Name that Tune (Metallica- but how come i can't remember the words?!), then hit the hay.
None of the babies slept well which kept the parents up all night so they had to leave early. I forget how much work kids are when they are toddlers. What I wouldn't give to have my babies back there for just one day! My keiki were hanging with their Hot Springs friends, Snowen and Zinnia (thanks Stephanie and Mike!). There was even another Django there! The kids love it and so do I, Hot Springs Rulz! We'll be back there June 11, and August 21st.
